Agnes Nisbett was awarded the Community Pride of Britain for her significant contributions as a midwife and for being an influential force in transforming the UK’s perception of stillbirths and the treatment of both mother and baby.
It was a blessing for sing for her 17 May 2025 in Leicester where she shared her story and reiterated the message of love and compassion.

Agnes Nisbett, a pioneering midwife from St Kitts and Nevis, dedicated her career to helping grieving parents after her own experience of stillbirth in 1973. As Leicester’s first Black nursing officer, she revolutionized stillbirth care by establishing the “Born Whilst Sleeping” program at LeicesterRoyal Infirmary. She created a sanctuary for bereaved parents, offering clothing, photos, and keepsakes. Agnes’s compassionate care touched countless lives until her retirement in 2004, and she was honored with a Pride of Britain award for her lifelong devotion to others.
